Squee! Sp5! (and a questionaire)

I just got the info on my secret pal! Sorry non-knitters out there, you're going to have to put up with a lot more knitting than usual these days.

Ok, Secret Pal, get ready to be spoiled!

Also all participants have been asked to fill out a knitting questionaire to help their secret pals get to know us better...



1. Are you a yarn snob (do you prefer high-end/natural fibers)? Do you avoid Red Heart and Lion Brand? Or is it all the same to you?
I'm a middle-ground yarn kid. I like the high-end stuff a lot, but basically anything that's less than 50% acrylic usually makes me happy.

2. Do you spin? Crochet?
I can sort of spin...I might take a class this fall. I can crochet, but I don't if I can avoid it.

3. Do you have any allergies? (smoke, pets, fibers, perfume, etc.)
I'm allergic to cigarette smoke.

4. How long have you been knitting?
I've been knitting since I was 10, so that's erm, 14 years.

5. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?
Half (Dot) com. It's not very knitting related, though.

6. What's your favorite scent? (for candles, bath products etc.)
I like lavender, vanilla, apple, raspberry, melon, and anything that's abstract-water-smelling: rain, ocean mist, bay breeze, trpoical storm, wet grass, cape cod...stuff like that.


7. Do you have a sweet tooth?
Yes, but a very picky one...and I'm trying to condition it to want fruit and nothing else.


8. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do?
I quilt, sew (including clothes), photograph, and make multi-media sculpture.


9. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)
I'm a chick-with-guitar-folk-music sort of girl, for the most part. Lately I've been listening to some alt. blue grass too (the duhks, the be good tanyas, etc.)


10. What's your favorite color? Or--do you have a color family/season/palette you prefer?
Purple, green, and blue are my favorite colors. I like jewel hued things as well. Pretty much anything but pink will make me happy.

11. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?
I have a roommate and a cat...I also have a fabulous girlfriend.


12. What are your life dreams? (really stretching it here, I know)
Lately, I think that wedding photographer is at the top of the list.


13. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with?
Merino, silk blends, alpaca, tencel blends.


14. What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?
Acrylic...


15. What is/are your current knitting obsession/s?
I just had a breast reduction, so sweaters for myself...for the first time ever.


16. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?
Anything new and challenging-- right now I'm sweater girl. For a while I was sock-girl...there was also a 'using up all my old acrylic yarn' phase...during that phase I turned into arm-warmer (knitty's voodoo) girl.


17. What are you knitting right now?
A raincoat (better not ask), a sock, and a cardi that I'm making up as I go along. I'd like to start knitty's clapotis, but I still haven't found a good yarn for it.


18. What do you think about ponchos?
I have one-- one is enough.


19. Do you prefer straight or circular needles?
I prefer straights and DPNs, but lately I'm all circ girl because seamelss sweaters are the way to go.


20. Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?
Tales of a brand-name slut: Addi turbos and Brittany birches.


21. Are you a sock knitter?
At times.


22. How did you learn to knit?
My grandmother taught me while on a week long beach vacation that got rained out.


23. How old is your oldest UFO?
I have no idea...most of my old UFOs have been given up on and are in my stash-bin waiting to be frogged and de-kinked.


24. What is your favorite animated character or a favorite animal/bird?
I like aligators, red winged black birds, and (of course) sheep.


25. What is your favorite holiday?
I like halloween because I like costume and pagentry.


26. Is there anything that you collect?
Yarn, knitting needles, vintage patterns, art deco powder boxes.


27. What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have?
None, although I pick up Interweave from time to time.


28. Any books out there you are dying to get your hands on?
Any women's knitting pattern books/pamphlets from the 1900-1950s
